Aug 20th, 2010 Wow, that sure went by fast! I can't believe it's already the end of August. It seems like every year the summer goes by faster. At any rate, we've had a pretty good season so far with some great races and BBQ's. The Emerald Bay Cruise out last weekend was especially nice. The weather and company couldn't have been more pleasant. Special thanks to John and Lynn Gallagher and Michael Babcock for all the effort they put into hosting it. We all had a wonderful time and I'll try to post some pictures when I get a chance. In other news: I got another request from Lisa Franco, who will be visiting Tahoe Sept 2,3, for a boat ride on the lake. If anyone can spare the time they sure would appreciate it. The earlier letter and contact info is below: Visitors to Tahoe Looking for a ride: Hi there, My partner Dave and I are members of two yacht clubs in Toronto, ON, Canada. We have a Peterson 37 sailboat that we race regularly and a Chris Craft Grew 290 powerboat....so we are experienced sailors and boaters. I am a California native, living on Lake Ontario in Canada for quite a few years now, and we are coming home to the Bay Area for a family wedding over Labor Day weekend. We’ll be driving up to the Lake Tahoe area for a couple of days, because I’d love to show Dave how beautiful it is (and maybe he’ll agree to move back with me!) and was wondering if you could please possibly post this request to your membership: We wondering (hoping) if anyone is willing to take us out for a sail while we’re in town. We’ll be there on Thursday, Sept 2 and Friday, Sept 3rd...and can even spend the day on Saturday the 4th if that’s the only day possible to have a sail...or boat ride. We are happy to reciprocate if any of your members ever make it out here anytime. Thank you very, very much, Lisa Franco and Dave Street
May 8th, 2010 Wow, it's 2010 and the summer sailing season is almost here already! The Club Board members had a great meeting at the Tahoe House in Tahoe City last Saturday. The summer race and BBQ schedule was set up and the usual topics were discussed (membership, trailer, new regulations, etc). Opening Day is June 26th, and will be hosted by Phyllis and Rick. In other news: I got the following letter from some nice folks in Canada that will be down in August for a visit. If anyone can give them a ride please contact them. (I'd love to, but that's Burning Man week and we'll probably be in the Black Rock again) Here's the Letter: Hi there, My partner Dave and I are members of two yacht clubs in Toronto, ON, Canada. Stuff From Previous Years...
September 12th, 2009 Well the 2009 season is pretty much over. The Goofy Regatta was cancelled due to low lake level and lack of sponsor. In fact, low lake level, the weather, and the economy, all contributed to what was probably not one our best seasons. Although it may not have been the greatest, any time at the lake is a good time. So from that point of view it was still a successful summer. The Commodores Cup and annual meeting on Aug 22nd were, from what I heard, a great race and BBQ. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend because of a wedding that same day. (Why can't people get married in February when there's nothing else going on) If anyone has any pictures they'd like me to post please email them to me. John Gallagher was sworn in as new Commodore and also won the race. Here he is with all the trophies he can carry:
Also sworn in were Elizabeth Hale as Vice Commodore and Steven Matles as Rear Commodore. For minutes of the meeting click here. To wrap up the season our Board of Directors meeting is Oct. 3rd at John Nolans place in Tahoe City. Click here for agenda and directions.
August 18th The Emerald Bay Cruise Out was a lot of fun again this year. The weather was absolutely perfect with warm water for swimming and light winds in the evening for a great nights sleep on the water. Thanks to John and Lynn Gallagher and Michael and Raider Babock we had plenty of food so no one went hungry. There were even a few meteors left for those with the energy to stay up and watch them. Next up is the Commodores Cup and election of Officers on the 22nd. Should be another great August weekend at the Lake! August 8th Well, it certainly hasn't been much of a season for racing. The race on Race Day was scratched due to weather - too many thunder storms in the area. The BBQ was great though, with a nice job by Bob Pelton and John Gallagher. Hopefully the weather will be more cooperative for the Emerald Bay Raft Up on the 15th and 16th. July 27th The Regret-a-Regatta was a blast. Finally some decent weather for a race and BBQ. We had five boats in the race with Turner in first, Nolan second, and Gallagher third. We also probably had 30 or more people at the BBQ. A little light, but considering the economy still not bad. Pictures coming soon. Next up is Meeks Bay Race Day on the 1st of August. July 12th: The 4th of July fireworks BBQ at Michael Babock's was great fun and the fireworks over Tahoe City was a blast. The weather couldn't have been better. Next up is the Regret-a-Regatta on July 18th. June 29th: Well, thanks to Phyllis, the Opening Day BBQ was a great success. The usual burgers, dogs, and camaraderie. Can't quite say the same for the sailing. Out of four boats, nobody finished the race. The wind was just to gusty and squirrely out there. Nolan broke his traveler, Turner (me) made the first mark but called it quits after that and I don't know what happened with the other boats. Coming up next is the 4th of July Raft-up at Michael Babcock's, hopefully the weather will be a little nicer! June 18th: Added a page for crewing information - check it out here. If you want to be on this list send me an email here. As of 15 May 2009: Well, the Board met on the 11th of April for what could diplomatically be called a rather spirited meeting. The dates for all our up coming events were determined and can be viewed on our Calendar. The Opening Day Regatta is June 20th and will be hosted by Rick and Phyllis. Click here to view the flyer. As of 4 April 2009: The Spring Board
meeting for the 2009 season is scheduled for April 11th at 2:00 pm at
Commodore John Nolan's place in Truckee. That's him sailing with
the starboard rail in the water in the picture below.
At the meeting the board will settle on the dates for this seasons events and they will subsequently be posted here. From the way it looks right now it might not be much of a racing season. Many of our usual participants in the races have already decided not to put in their boats this season due to low lake levels. Will keep you posted on the outcome of the meeting...
